About Cadbury, beyond the UK range

Cadbury is one of the world's best-known chocolate brands, founded in Birmingham in 1824 and now owned by Mondelez International. Our range focuses on Cadbury world imports: international variants of the brand made for the Australian, Canadian, and South African markets that UK supermarkets don't reliably stock. The standouts are Australian Caramilk (caramelised white chocolate), Canadian Wunderbar (peanut caramel) and South African Top Deck (white-and-milk layered bar), all sought after by UK expats returning from those markets.

What makes international Cadbury different to UK Cadbury

If you've travelled in Australia, Canada or India and bought Cadbury there, the bars stocked here are the actual products from those markets. Three meaningful differences from UK Dairy Milk.

  • Different chocolate recipe: Australian Cadbury uses a higher milk-solids ratio and a slightly different cocoa blend, resulting in a creamier, less sweet finish than UK Dairy Milk at the same price point. Canadian Cadbury is closer to the UK recipe but with North American sugar and milk sources.
  • Different bar formats: Wunderbar (peanut butter caramel chocolate, Canada) and Caramello Koala (caramel-centred koala-shaped bar, Australia) don't have UK equivalents. Caramilk (caramelised white chocolate, Australia) is now produced in a UK version, but Australian fans regard the original as better.
  • Discontinued-and-revived favourites: Cadbury Caramilk was launched in Australia in 1968, discontinued in 1994, then brought back in 2018 by fan campaigning. The Australian version is the one with the cultural following.

For UK shoppers cross-shopping the international chocolate aisle, this range pairs naturally with our Milka European range (Mondelez's European chocolate brand, also using Alpine milk). Mondelez owns both, so it's the same parent company running multiple regional chocolate brands.

The 5 imported Cadbury variants we stock

Each bar is the original import from its market of origin.

Bar Origin Profile
Caramilk Australia Caramelised white chocolate. Launched 1968, discontinued 1994, revived 2018 by fan demand. The original Australian recipe
Wunderbar Canada Peanut butter, caramel and crisped rice covered in Cadbury milk chocolate. Canada-only signature bar with no UK equivalent
Caramello Koala Australia Koala-shaped milk chocolate bar with a soft caramel centre. Around 50 million sold annually in Australia. Mascot named George
Turkish Delight Australia / UK Milk chocolate over rose-flavoured Turkish delight. Now produced in Australia as the primary market after UK reformulations; Australian fans consider the original recipe better
Dairy Milk Oreo (International) International Cadbury Dairy Milk with Oreo cookie pieces. International market variant with different recipe to the UK version. Both brands owned by Mondelez

Ingredients and allergens

Ingredients vary by product and market. Standard Cadbury Dairy Milk recipe (representative):

Milk, sugar, cocoa butter, cocoa mass, vegetable fats (palm, shea), emulsifiers (E442, E476), flavourings. Milk solids 23% minimum, cocoa solids 26% minimum.

Allergen profile: contains milk as a direct ingredient across all products. The Wunderbar contains peanuts. The Dairy Milk Oreo and similar biscuit-containing variants contain wheat. Most Cadbury chocolate is suitable for vegetarians (look for the vegetarian symbol on the back of pack). Not formally halal certified for the UK market, although some international markets (notably the Middle East and parts of South Africa) carry halal-certified Cadbury production. Halal-keeping shoppers should verify the individual bag and the country of origin. Strict vegans should avoid because of the dairy content; look at our vegan sweets range instead.

Who international Cadbury is for

Australian and Canadian diaspora UK shoppers: Wunderbar, Caramello Koala and Australian Caramilk are deeply familiar to anyone who grew up with Cadbury in those markets. UK supermarkets don't stock them. If you've been buying these on trips home or asking family to mail them, this is the regular supply line.

Cadbury fans wanting variety: if you already buy UK Dairy Milk and want to widen the Cadbury drawer with regional variants, the international range gives access to formats UK retail doesn't offer.

Caramel and caramilk enthusiasts: the Caramilk and Caramello Koala together cover both the white-chocolate-caramelised and the milk-chocolate-with-caramel-centre formats. Both have dedicated followings.

Gifting buyers: the Caramello Koala in particular works as a novelty gift due to the koala shape and the Australian provenance. Pairs with our Milka range for a Mondelez chocolate gifting selection.

Cross-shopping with Milka: both brands are Mondelez-owned and the imported Milka range covers European chocolate the same way this Cadbury range covers Australian and Canadian. Together they give a full Mondelez international chocolate selection.

International Cadbury UK: frequently asked questions

Is Australian Cadbury different from UK Cadbury?

Yes. Australian Cadbury uses a slightly different recipe with a higher milk-solids ratio and a different cocoa blend than UK Dairy Milk, resulting in a creamier, less sweet chocolate. Australia also produces unique Cadbury variants that aren't part of the UK range, including the Caramello Koala (50 million sold annually in Australia) and the original Caramilk recipe. Mondelez deliberately calibrates Cadbury for different regional palates, so the same brand can taste meaningfully different depending on where it was manufactured.

What is Cadbury Wunderbar?

Wunderbar is a Canadian Cadbury bar combining peanut butter, caramel and crisped rice covered in Cadbury milk chocolate. It's produced in Canada for the Canadian market and has no direct UK equivalent. Comparable in concept to a peanut-butter chocolate bar but with the texture variety of crisped rice and caramel layered together. A staple of the Canadian chocolate aisle that needs specialist importers to reach UK shoppers.

What is the difference between Australian Caramilk and UK Caramilk?

Cadbury launched Caramilk in Australia in 1968, discontinued it in 1994, then brought it back permanently in 2018 after fan campaigning. The Australian recipe has the original cultural following. Cadbury UK has more recently launched its own Caramilk bar, but the recipe is calibrated for UK palates. Australian Caramilk fans generally consider the original recipe superior in caramel intensity and the caramelised white chocolate profile. Worth comparing both side by side if you want to settle the debate.

Is international Cadbury halal?

It depends on the country of manufacture. Cadbury produced in the Middle East and parts of South Africa typically carries halal certification on the local packaging. Cadbury produced for the UK, Australia and Canada does not carry formal halal certification, although the recipes contain no haram ingredients (no pork, no alcohol). Halal-keeping shoppers who require certified labels should verify the individual bag and the country of origin printed on the back.

Why isn't international Cadbury stocked in UK supermarkets?

Mondelez UK operates a distinct UK distribution arm for Cadbury, separate from Mondelez Australia, Mondelez Canada and Mondelez international. Each market gets its own product catalogue based on regional preferences and licensing. Mondelez does not commercially import the Australian or Canadian Cadbury catalogue into UK retail because the UK already has its own Cadbury range. Specialist importers fill the gap for UK shoppers who want access to the international variants.
