About Monster Energy
Monster Energy launched in April 2002 as a Hansen Natural Corporation product, eventually growing to become the world's number-two energy drink brand by global sales after Red Bull. The company renamed to Monster Beverage Corporation in 2012. The Coca-Cola Company acquired a 16.7% stake in 2015 (now around 19.5%) and handles global distribution outside the US. Monster has launched over 50 flavours globally, with the Ultra range (zero-sugar variants), Java line (coffee-based) and Mango Loco / Pipeline Punch tropical line being the biggest gaps in UK supermarket distribution.

The Ultra range substitutes sucralose and acesulfame-K for sugar. The Java line adds milk and coffee. The energy variants without dairy are vegan-suitable. Contains 160mg caffeine per 500ml can: do not consume more than 500ml per day, not suitable for children, pregnant or breastfeeding women, or anyone sensitive to caffeine. Who Monster imports are for
Ultra range fans: UK supermarkets carry only a few Ultra variants. Ultra Violet, Ultra Watermelon, Ultra Sunrise and the rarer Ultra flavours come through the import channel.
Java line caffeine seekers: the Java line is a coffee-and-energy hybrid not widely stocked in UK retail. Combines the standard Monster energy blend with real coffee for a heavier caffeine hit suited to early starts or long sessions.
Pick-and-mix energy buyers: the 500ml American can format works for variety packs. Pair with our Red Bull Thai imports for a varied energy drink selection.
Tropical flavour fans: the Pipeline Punch and Mango Loco variants in the Juiced line are some of the most popular American-only Monster flavours, with the tropical fruit profile working as a less aggressive entry point for shoppers who find the original recipe too intense.

Monster Energy: frequently asked questions
How much caffeine is in Monster Energy?
Standard Monster Energy contains 160mg of caffeine per 500ml can. This is roughly twice the caffeine of a standard cup of brewed coffee (around 80mg) and four times the caffeine of Dr Pepper (41mg per 355ml). The Java line variants contain even more caffeine due to the added real coffee. UK guidelines recommend no more than 400mg of caffeine per day for healthy adults, so two cans of Monster will hit close to that limit.
Is Monster Energy vegan?
Standard Monster Energy and most of the Ultra range are vegan-suitable (no animal-derived ingredients). The Java line is not vegan because it contains milk and dairy ingredients. The taurine in Monster is synthetic rather than animal-derived. Always check the back of each individual can for the specific dietary status, especially across the Juiced and limited-edition variants.
What's the difference between American Monster and UK Monster?
Standard Monster Energy is broadly similar in both markets, though the American version uses different sugar sources and may have slightly different flavour intensity. The bigger difference is range: American Monster has the Java line, Pipeline Punch, Mango Loco, Khaotic and a much wider Ultra selection that UK supermarkets simply don't carry. Most UK Monster shoppers come to imports specifically for the flavour range, not because the original recipe is unavailable.
Who owns Monster Energy?
Monster Energy is owned by Monster Beverage Corporation (formerly Hansen Natural Corporation), based in Corona, California. The Coca-Cola Company acquired a 16.7% stake in 2015, now around 19.5%, and handles distribution outside the US. Despite the Coca-Cola stake, Monster remains an independent company and is the world's number-two energy drink brand by global sales after Red Bull.
