About Mogu Mogu
Mogu Mogu was conceived in 2001 by Adisak Ruckariyaphong at his family's bakery business in Thailand, which became Sappe Public Company Limited. The drink was differentiated from competitors by adding nata de coco (fermented coconut water gel pieces) for a chewy texture, achieving nationwide Thai distribution through 7-Eleven convenience stores in 2006. The brand has since expanded to over 60 countries with particularly strong growth in France in the 2020s. The name "Mogu Mogu" is Japanese for the chewing sound, reflecting the brand's chew-and-drink format. The nata de coco jelly contains around 25% of the bottle volume, which is unusual for a fruit drink and creates the distinctive bubble-tea-like experience.

Ingredients and allergens
Standard Mogu Mogu Coconut contains water (around 63%), nata de coco (25%), fructose (7%), sugar (4%), artificial coconut flavour, calcium lactate and sodium hydrogen sulfate (acidulants), sodium benzoate (preservative), gellan gum (gelling agent for the nata de coco texture), and no added colour. The fruit variants substitute artificial fruit flavour for the coconut flavouring. All variants are vegan-suitable (no animal-derived ingredients; the gellan gum is plant-derived from bacterial fermentation rather than animal collagen). All variants are halal certified by the Central Islamic Council of Thailand, displayed on the back of the bottle. Contains coconut (allergen). Caffeine-free. Always check the back of each individual bottle for the most accurate allergen and dietary information.
Who Mogu Mogu is for
Bubble tea fans: Mogu Mogu delivers a similar texture experience to bubble tea (chewy jelly pieces in a sweet drink) without needing a specialist café. The nata de coco is softer than tapioca pearls but the chewing element is the same. For people who like bubble tea but want a take-home format, Mogu Mogu fills the gap.
Halal household shoppers: Mogu Mogu is formally halal certified across all flavours, useful for Muslim shoppers building a halal-only drinks selection. Pair with our halal sweets range for a broader halal selection.
Asian and Thai food enthusiasts: the Lychee, Mango and Melon variants are Asian-style fruit profiles that don't appear in UK supermarket drinks. Mogu Mogu sits naturally alongside other Asian-import drinks like the Thai Red Bull originals.
Caffeine-free drink seekers: Mogu Mogu is entirely caffeine-free, useful for shoppers who actively want a non-caffeinated sweet drink option in the imported drinks range. Pair with our Arizona iced teas (which are low-caffeine) for variety.

Mogu Mogu drinks: frequently asked questions
What is nata de coco?
Nata de coco (Spanish for "coconut cream") is a chewy, jelly-like food made from fermenting coconut water with the Acetobacter xylinum bacteria. The result is a translucent, soft-firm gel that holds its shape and adds a chewing element to drinks and desserts. It's a traditional Filipino ingredient that's now widely used across Southeast Asia in drinks, halo-halo, fruit cocktails and bubble tea-style drinks. Mogu Mogu contains around 25% nata de coco by volume.
Is Mogu Mogu halal?
Yes. Mogu Mogu is formally halal certified by the Central Islamic Council of Thailand, with the certification mark displayed on the back of every bottle. The recipe contains no alcohol, no pork-derived ingredients, no animal gelatine and no other haram ingredients. The nata de coco gel is plant-derived from bacterial fermentation of coconut water rather than animal-derived. This makes Mogu Mogu a reliable halal-certified drink option for Muslim shoppers.
How do you drink Mogu Mogu?
Shake the bottle before opening to distribute the nata de coco jelly pieces evenly. The nata de coco settles toward the bottom during storage but mixes back into suspension with a good shake. Drink straight from the bottle or pour into a glass with the jelly pieces. Chill before drinking for the best texture. The name "Mogu Mogu" is Japanese for the chewing sound the nata de coco creates, so you're meant to chew the jelly pieces rather than swallow them whole.
Is Mogu Mogu vegan?
Yes. Mogu Mogu is vegan-suitable across all flavours. The recipe contains no animal-derived ingredients: the nata de coco gel comes from bacterial fermentation of coconut water rather than animal gelatine, and there's no dairy, eggs or honey in the recipe. The gellan gum used as a gelling agent is plant-derived from bacterial fermentation, not animal-derived. Contains coconut (allergen) and added sugar.
