About Chupa Chups
Chupa Chups is the Spanish lollipop brand founded in 1958 by Enric Bernat in Barcelona. The name comes from the Spanish verb "chupar" (to suck). The iconic daisy logo was designed by Salvador Dalí in 1969 and has remained virtually unchanged since. The brand is now owned by Italian-Dutch group Perfetti Van Melle (which also owns Mentos and Smint) and sells in over 150 countries worldwide.

Ingredients and allergens
Chupa Chups lollipops are made from sugar, glucose syrup, acids and flavourings, with no obvious animal-derived ingredients in the standard fruit variants. Big Babol bubblegum contains gum base, sugar, glucose syrup and flavourings. The brand is generally vegetarian-suitable but is not formally vegan certified. Made in facilities that handle milk, soy and gluten so cross-contamination is possible. Always check the back of the pack for the specific allergen and ingredient information.
Who Chupa Chups is for
Party-bag and birthday buyers: the 50-piece display box is one of the most efficient ways to fill kids' party bags. Each piece is individually wrapped and instantly recognisable.
Novelty sweet shoppers: Melody Pops and the Tongue Painter bubblegum sit alongside Tic Tac, Bebeto pencils and the Amos Audio lollipops as proper novelty-format sweets that go beyond simple candy.
Retro and nostalgia buyers: Chupa Chups has been a fixture in European corner shops, newsagents and supermarkets for more than 60 years. The brand recognition cuts across multiple generations.
Bubblegum fans: the Big Babol range covers the soft-strip bubblegum format that sits between traditional Bazooka-style chunks and the harder Hubba Bubba tape format.

Chupa Chups: frequently asked questions
Who designed the Chupa Chups logo?
The Chupa Chups daisy logo was designed by Spanish surrealist artist Salvador Dalí in 1969. Dalí incorporated the Chupa Chups name into a brightly coloured daisy shape, and the logo has remained virtually unchanged since. It is one of the most recognisable confectionery logos in the world.
Are Chupa Chups vegan?
Chupa Chups lollipops are generally vegetarian-suitable but are not formally vegan certified. The standard fruit variants do not contain obvious animal-derived ingredients, but recipes can vary by region and the brand does not display vegan certification on UK packaging. Always check the back of the specific pack if dietary status is important.
What is the difference between Melody Pops and standard Chupa Chups?
Melody Pops are novelty whistle lollipops where the stick is hollow and shaped so you can blow into it to play musical notes after you have eaten the candy off the top. Standard Chupa Chups are flat-topped fruit-flavoured lollipops on a plain stick. Melody Pops are the kids' birthday party variant; standard Chupa Chups are the everyday format.
Who owns Chupa Chups?
Chupa Chups is owned by Perfetti Van Melle, the Italian-Dutch confectionery group that also owns Mentos, Smint and Fruitella. Perfetti Van Melle acquired Chupa Chups from the founding Bernat family in 2006. The brand still operates from Barcelona, Spain, where it was founded in 1958.
