About Grenade
Grenade is a Birmingham-founded UK sports nutrition brand best known for its Carb Killa range of high-protein, low-sugar chocolate bars. The brand launched as a sports supplement company and shifted decisively into the protein bar space, where the Carb Killa quickly became one of the UK's best-selling protein bars. Mondelez International (owner of Cadbury, Oreo and Milka) acquired Grenade in 2021. The Carb Killa formula delivers around 20-23g of protein, under 2g of sugar, and is Informed-Sport certified for use by professional athletes.

Ingredients and allergens
Standard Carb Killa ingredients include milk protein blend (whey protein, milk protein), polyols (maltitol, glycerol), milk chocolate (cocoa butter, milk powder, cocoa mass, emulsifier soya lecithin), humectants, palm fat, condensed milk, and natural flavourings. Most variants contain milk, soya and gluten (from the soya crispies and barley malt extract in the base). Dark Chocolate Raspberry is now suitable for vegetarians and the only variant Grenade markets as vegan-suitable. The whole range is Informed-Sport certified (banned-substance tested) and not formally halal certified. The polyol sweeteners can cause a laxative effect if consumed in excess. Always check the back of each individual pack for the most accurate allergen and dietary information.
Who Grenade is for
Protein bar fans: Carb Killa is widely considered one of the best-tasting protein bars in the UK market, delivering 20-23g of protein with chocolate-bar levels of indulgence. The triple-layer format closely mimics regular confectionery while staying low in sugar.
Gym and fitness shoppers: the Informed-Sport certification means every batch is tested for banned substances, making Carb Killa one of the few protein bars suitable for competitive athletes. Pair with our Warrior Crunch range for variety.
Low-sugar chocolate buyers: with around 1.4-2.4g of sugar per bar (versus 20g+ in a standard chocolate bar), Carb Killa works for shoppers managing sugar intake without giving up the chocolate-bar format. Pair with our Cadbury world imports range for variety days.
Flavour collectors: the Carb Killa range has expanded to over 15 different flavours, with seasonal and limited-edition variants regularly added. The Oreo White and Jaffa Quake are official brand collaborations that aren't always reliably available in supermarkets.

Grenade protein bars: frequently asked questions
Are Grenade Carb Killa bars healthy?
Grenade Carb Killa bars are high in protein (20-23g per bar) and low in sugar (1.4-2.4g), making them a meaningfully better-macro option than a standard chocolate bar. They work well as a post-workout snack, meal-bridge snack or chocolate-bar substitute. They are not a replacement for whole-food protein sources and should be eaten as part of a balanced diet. The polyol sweeteners can cause a laxative effect if consumed in excess.
Are Grenade bars vegetarian or vegan?
Most Carb Killa bars are vegetarian-suitable as they contain no meat or fish ingredients, but they contain whey and milk protein so are not vegan or dairy-free. The Dark Chocolate Raspberry variant is now suitable for vegans, the only formally vegan-suitable bar in the range. Always check the back of each individual pack for the specific dietary status.
Who owns Grenade?
Grenade was founded in the UK in 2010 and acquired by Mondelez International in 2021. Mondelez also owns Cadbury, Oreo, Milka and Toblerone, which is why some Carb Killa variants such as Oreo White are official cross-brand collaborations rather than copycat flavours. Grenade UK is based in Birmingham.
What's the difference between Grenade and Warrior protein bars?
Both are UK-made low-sugar, high-protein chocolate-coated bars with triple-layer formats. Grenade Carb Killa typically delivers 20-23g protein with around 1.4-2.4g sugar and is owned by Mondelez. Warrior Crunch typically delivers 20g protein with around 2.3g sugar and is an independent brand founded 2008. Taste profiles differ subtly: Grenade leans denser and more candy-bar-like, Warrior leans crunchier with more whey crispies through the centre.
