Rowntrees sweets, sold by the box
Boxes start at about GBP 12.99, each one filled with sharing pouches (either nine or ten per box), and all items ship fresh from our Birmingham base.
One question buyers always ask first: which Rowntrees are vegan? Fruit Pastilles, Fruit Gums and Jelly Tots are all vegan-friendly, made without gelatine. Randoms, Randoms Juicers and the soft Fruit Pastilles Squidgers still use pork gelatine, so they are not suitable for vegans or vegetarians. We make sure to flag this clearly on every product, so you do not have to search the small print.

Which Rowntrees sweets are vegan?
Rowntrees quietly changed its main range to remove gelatine, which is why so much of the line is now vegan-friendly. The quick rule most shoppers use still works: if the pack does not say suitable for vegetarians, it contains gelatine. Here is where each one stands.
| Vegan-friendly (no gelatine) | Contains pork gelatine (not vegan) |
|---|---|
| Fruit Pastilles | Randoms |
| Fruit Gums | Randoms Juicers |
| Jelly Tots | Fruit Pastilles Squidgers |
If you are shopping for a vegan household, the Fruit Pastilles, Fruit Gums and Jelly Tots boxes are the safest choices. Want something for everyone at a party? Mix a vegan box with a box of Randoms and both sides are covered.
Know your Fruit Pastilles from your Fruit Gums
They all look fruity and colourful, but every Rowntrees line has its own texture and its own group of fans.
Fruit Pastilles
The one everyone thinks of first. Chewy, rolled in sugar, and well known for the challenge of eating them one flavour at a time without giving in and chewing straight away. Strawberry, orange, lemon, lime and blackcurrant, and vegan since the recipe was changed.
Fruit Gums
Firmer and chewier than pastilles, with no sugar coating, so they last longer in your mouth. Same five fruit flavours, and blackcurrant is usually the one people look for at the bottom of the pouch.
Jelly Tots
Little soft jelly beads with no hard centre, which is why they are a favourite for younger kids and for anyone looking for something gentle to snack on. Vegan-friendly and easy to share by the handful.
Randoms
The wildcard in the range. Soft gummies that come in 111 different shapes, so you really do not know what you will pull out of the pouch. Randoms Juicers add a juicy liquid centre. Both use pork gelatine, so they are not vegan.
Why buy Rowntrees by the box
Single tubes are fine for a quick shop visit, but the cost adds up quickly. Buying a box of nine or ten sharing pouches is cheaper per pouch and keeps the cupboard, the party table or the shop shelf stocked without needing to top up every week. It works for a few different shoppers:
- Households that go through sweets and would rather order once.
- Parties, film nights and pick and mix bowls that need plenty.
- Vegan sweet fans who want their favourites in bulk without having to check every label.
- Shops, cafes and market stalls buying to sell on.
A bit about Rowntrees
Rowntrees began in York in the 1800s and has been making fruity sweets since 1881, making Fruit Pastilles one of the oldest sweets still on sale in Britain. The brand is now owned by Nestle, and it was the first company in the UK to remove artificial colours, flavours and preservatives from all its products, with the fruit flavours coloured and flavoured using natural sources. The sweets you see here are from the Nestle confectionery range; the Rowntrees ice lollies you find in the freezer are made separately by Froneri.
Rowntrees sweets FAQ
Which Rowntrees sweets are vegan?
Fruit Pastilles, Fruit Gums and Jelly Tots are vegan-friendly, made without gelatine. Randoms, Randoms Juicers and Fruit Pastilles Squidgers contain pork gelatine, so they are not suitable for vegans or vegetarians.
Is Rowntrees owned by Nestle?
Yes. Rowntrees is a Nestle brand. The sweets in this collection are part of the Nestle confectionery range, while the Rowntrees ice lolly range is made by Froneri.
Does Rowntrees still exist?
It does. The Rowntree company merged into Nestle in the late 1980s, but the Rowntrees name continues across Fruit Pastilles, Fruit Gums, Jelly Tots, Randoms and more, all still widely available in the UK.
How many shapes are in Rowntrees Randoms?

What flavours are Rowntrees Fruit Pastilles?
The classic pack contains five flavours: strawberry, orange, lemon, lime and blackcurrant. Fruit Gums use the same five flavours in a firmer sweet.
How are the boxes sold and delivered?
Each listing is a full box of sharing pouches, nine or ten pouches to a box depending on the product. Orders are sent fresh from our Birmingham base.
